Our Pets
The Blue Rock Inn
Restaurant and Pub
We are animal lovers at The Blue Rock.
The newest addition to our family is our
mascot Blue.  Blue is a big, fluffy, sweet
tempered cat.  Our chef Jim McCullough
found him prowling around our barns and
eventually adopted him.  He loves attention
and enjoys spending time with our guests.
He stays in the common guest areas  and
away from the guest bedrooms for the
convenience of our visitors.  We have a
boarding area for horses and gorgeous
riding trails.  Contact us for details.
We also have several beautiful swans that are part of the Airlie
Foundations environmental studies.  The Swan Research
Program located on the Airlie Center campus is a division of The
International Academy for Preventive Medicine, Inc.; and is a
non-profit research and education organization concerned with
the protection and restoration of wetland habitats and their native
inhabitants. Dr. Tom Wood, Director, and his staff work to refine
techniques of teaching rare and endangered waterfowl long-lost
migration routes using ultralight aircraft and, more recently, a gas
balloon. The Program has received much national and
international publicity, even spawning the Hollywood film Fly
Away Home. As part of its educational effort, the Environmental
Studies Program hosts public seminars and workshops and offers
Airlie Center conferees guided tours of its field station, Clifton
Farm, and its unique, captive, free-swimming collection of swans,
the largest in the Eastern United States.
